"Our Language"
--
The language of the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe has been spoken throughout the people of the tribe for generations. Although not many of the younger generations can speak the Indian French, there are many efforts being done to change that. Before the schools were integrated for natives to go to school with the whites, the native kids spoke strictly Indian French, but at the white school they were punished and hit for speaking their native tongue. This soon caused the deterioration of the native language to the younger generations. Today, there is now a French immersion school in the Point-au-Chien community that is bringing back the native language.
